Laboratoire STEP (Synthèse, Structure et Propriétés de Matériaux Fonctionnels) 


I am a researcher at the Institute Nanoscience & Cryogenics of CEA Grenoble. My main research interests are the synthesis, functionalization and applications of semiconductor nanocrystals (“quantum dots”), nanowires and hybrid perovskites. One of the big challenges is the understanding of the nucleation and growth mechanisms, which govern the size and shape of these nano-objects. Another equally important topic is the precise determination of their surface state. We are developping in situ studies and we are using advanced X-ray diffraction and NMR spectroscopy techniques to address these questions. Concerning hybrid perovskites our main focus is the correlation of structure and properties with the goal of improving the statiliby of perovskite solar cells and replacing toxic lead by more environmentally benign elements. In the field of energy storage we have founded the startup company Enwires in 2016 (cf., which targets the low cost production of silicon nanowires for use in Li-ion batteries.

I am currently Head of the team STEP, which stands for Synthesis, Structure and Properties of Functional Materials and which has been founded from the former LEMOH and PCI groups. Before coming to France, I graduated from University of Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1997 and received my PhD in inorganic chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Dieter Fenske in 2000. After a post-doctoral stay at CEA-Grenoble DRFMC, I was hired as a staff researcher in 2002. In 2008 I received the "HDR" from University Joseph Fourier.
