First-principles calculations of electronic structure and transport in magnetic nanostructures

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at SPINTEC Lab in the area of ab-initio simulations of spin-dependent electronic structure and transport properties in magnetic nanostructures including those which are of primary interest in a aview of graphene spintronics. The appointment is inititally for one year with a possibility of renewal for another year and supported by the French National Research Agency (ANR). Research projects include both tight-binding and ab-initio studies of spintronic phenomena (magnetoresistance, spin transfer torque, spin pumping, Spin-Hall Effect etc.) in graphene and insulator based nanostructures.
Located at the Scientific Polygone in the heart of the "Silicon Alps", SPINTEC is a Joint Research Lab (CEA-INAC/CNRS/UJF-Grenoble/G-INP) aiming to bridge fundamental research and advanced technology towards new paradigms/devices in the emerging field of spin electronics. Scientists, technology experts and product development engineers conduct their research in a beautiful multidisciplinary atmosphere to address challenges of spintronics.
A successful candidate is expected to have a strong experience in electronic and transport calculations based on density-functional theory (DFT) and/or spin dependent transport modelling based on advanced quantum (preferably Green function based) approaches. Ph. D. in physics and/or other related discipline is required. The preference will be given to the candidate with ability to conduct both independent and collaborative research.
