SCIB/RICC complexes on the cover of Andgewandte Chemie
The article Stable Pentavalent Uranyl Species and Selective Assembly of a Polymetallic Mixed-Valent Uranyl Complex by Cation-Cation Interactions, written by SCIB/RICC makes the internal cover of the last issue of Angewandte Chemie Int. Ed. Oligomeric cation-cation complexes of actinyls are highly relevant for nuclear waste reprocessing and the migration of actinides in the environment. The authors show that the N,N-bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine (salen) ligand can stabilize uranium in the pentavalent state. A tetrametallic cation-cation complex shows stability towards disproportionation and hydrolysis, and an unambiguous antiferromagnetic coupling between the four oxo-bridged uranium centers.

SPrAM/CREAB's CLEF makes Small's cover
The article Contactless Electrofunctionalization of a Single Pore, co-authored by SPrAM/CREAB and iRTSV makes the internal cover of Small last issue. The cover picture illustrates an innovative functionalization technique, referred to as contactless electrofunctionalization (CLEF). The inner surface of a pore etched in a dielectric membrane can be easily coated in a single step and in physiologically compatible conditions. Localized deposition of polypyrrole copolymers bearing oligonucleotides, as well as metallic oxides, are experimentally demonstrated. Both are selectively deposited on the pore wall with no additional deposition onto the dielectric membrane.

Superconducting group-IV semiconductors
Claude Chapelier and Christophe Marcenat (SPSMS/LATEQS) are co-authors with colleagues of Institut Néel of a Progress Article in the latest issue of Nature Materials which reviews the discovery of superconductivity in boron-doped diamond and other group-IV semiconductors, and discuss recent achievements in understanding and predictions of innovative devices. This article also makes the issue's cover (cf. Nature Materials May 2009 Volume 8 No 5)
